Felixstowe – An Attractive Seaside Town
Felixstowe
Felixstowe is an attractive seaside town on the North Sea coast of Suffolk, England. Situated on a peninsular located between the River Deben and across the estuary of the River Orwell and the River Stour from Harwich in Essex. The town gives its name to the nearby Port of Felixstowe, which is the largest container port in the United Kingdom and is owned by Hutchinson Ports UK.Over the years Felixstowe has retained much of its charm and elegance as a popular seaside resort. There is a level promenade, ideal for a gentle stroll at any time of year, lined by beautiful gardens and over 4 miles of sand and shingle beaches dotted with colourful beach huts.
There is a good selection of amusements and children’s activities along the seafront. Plenty of restaurants and cafes can be found along the seafront, town centre and the beach areas, which range from upmarket bistros to kiosks on the pier selling ice cream and fish and chips. Fresh fish, locally caught can be sampled at several kiosks and restaurants on the seafront and at Felixstowe Ferry who offer seasonal specialities.
Felixstowe is home to the Spa Pavilion Theatre, which has a variety of shows ranging from ballet, musicals, an annual drama festival, and pantomimes. There is an independent cinema that shows the latest films, as well as housing the bingo hall.
Felixstowe Leisure Centre, which is located on the sea front, has a swimming pool, bowling rink, a gym and a soft play area for children. At Felixstowe Ferry A fine links golf course can be found at Felixstowe Ferry which is also home to sailing and waterski clubs.

Bawdsey Manor
From Felixstowe Ferry you can take a foot ferry across the Deben estuary to Bawdsey, the birthplace of Radar. The Ferry lies at the southern end of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are many interesting walks along this stretch of coast and the area is ideal for bird watching.At the other end of Felixstowe there is the Landguard Peninsula, with its nature reserve, historic 16th Century fort, and Felixstowe Museum as well as a foot ferry that links Felixstowe to Shotley and Harwich.
The viewpoint area on the Landguard Peninsula, where you can watch the biggest container ships in the world and cruise liners going in and out of the ports of Felixstowe and Harwich, is very popular with residents and visitors alike.
